TAL Accelerated Protection Critical Illness Insurance

Accelerated Protection Critical Illness Insurance is TAL's trauma cover policy. This pays a lump sum if you suffer from one of a specific list of a serious illnesses or injuries listed in the plan. You can claim a trauma insurance payment even if you are still able to work, and use the money for any purpose, such as to provide financial security while you recover; or to bridge the gap between your medical costs and any benefits you may receive from your health insurance.

You can buy your Critical Illness cover as a separate policy or in combination with Life Insurance or TPD Insurance. Standalone Critical Illness Insurance will cover you until you reach age 75, but when attached or linked to your Life Insurance your policy can remain in place with limited benefits until you reach age 100. You can insure up to $2,000,000 Critical Illness benefit, although the amount you buy can't be more than the amount of any linked Life Insurance cover. Accelerated Protection Critical Illness insurance cannot be bought through a superfund.

TAL offers two levels of Critical Illness cover – 'standard' and 'premier'. Premier cover provides a number of additional benefits, such as an advance payment of a percentage of your insurance in specific circumstances like the loss of sight in one eye.

There are some elective benefits you can add to your Accelerated Protection Critical Illness Insurance to give you extra protection. These include an option to suspend your premiums for a while if you are unable to work following an illness; and an option to add Child Critical Illness cover of up to $200,000 for dependent children aged between 2 and 15.
